This is it! Finally he is done, after almost two months or so of work!!! Okay, I only had time to paint in the evenings for about an hour all the time, because of my diploma, which I work for during the days, so probably it took me about, hum, six or seven days as a whole.
Ladies and Gentlemen, behold the wonderful James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser, also known as Jamie Fraser, inspired by Diana Gabaldonīs novel "Outlander". The title of the picture, "je suis prest", is also the traditional clan motto of the Frasers, meaning "I am ready".
I simply wanted Jamie as my wallpaper, and since I could not find any appropriate pictures of him in the internet, I had to make him up myself. I used loads of reference pics of course, for him himself, his clothes, weapons, the background, everything! And his tartan is of course the original Fraser plaid, which I have looked up too.
I also have sent Mrs. Gabaldon a mail, asking her if she would give me permission to display him on the internet, but she hasnīt answered yet and I was so impatient... *hops-up-and-down* And I think that itīs okay to display him anyway, since it may be her original idea of the character, but it is my personal adaptation of her thoughts.
Looks good! The folds on the shirt are great, as is the movement in the kilt. Did you do that with imagemapping?

Hi there An-Nah!
Iīm glad you like him - thank you!
By the way, Iīve looked up for you whether the book was published in Poland - and as far as Iīve found out, it was! Itīs called "Obca". The following two volumes were published too, called "Uwieziona w bursztynie" and "Podrozniczka". Iīve found this at the website of the "Ladies of Lallybroch", a fan club for the books, at [link]
Well, of course I donīt have a very objective kind of view on the books. - I recommend reading them, of course! I think theyīre great, kind of adventure/love story with unexpected and therefore enthralling turns. Perhaps youīll want to give it a try!
Hiya!
Thank you - glad you like him!
No offense taken by your question, donīt worry!
Hum, I never thought about whether his hair looks girlish - could be, yes! But on the other hand - donīt long hair always look kind of girlish? I gave him this long hair because men in the 18th century in Scotland wore their hair long, I think... and because I like men with long hair ever since I was a heavy metal fan waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy back in my youth
Yes, I really worked very hard, redoing his shirt about five times because I wasnīt content with the drapery and all. It still isnīt perfect - I should have added the colour of the clouds in the folds of his shirt, because light cloth always reflects the surrounding, as Iīve heard. But I was too lazy in the end... I finally wanted this piece finished, and decided that I am content enough with it to leave it for a few weeks on my desktop now - which is really good, since Iīm always looking for a mistake in my works when I see them often, and when Iīve found one, I only see the mistake when I see the pic.
I know that there are probably some flaws, such as that he looks kinda short (the guys over at the Ebony Keep forum mentioned it), but I cannot make him look taller without having to change too much (and recoloring) unfortunately. Though I even changed his size so that he is 9 heads tall, as Iīve read that this is the size of a heroic man (the average man is about 7 1/2 heads tall). Maybe it really is the kilt which makes him look short.
But well, since I donīt intend to change anything anymore anyway (any any any ), nothing can overthrow me that fast! Iīd be pleased if you told me your crits, because I can learn from them and maybe make it better next time (after 4 years of study I finally DO know that crits are your friends... isnīt that great... Iīve learned something from my study! *gg*)!
Heyyy! Thatīs great! You are a Fraser on your motherīs side! Cool! Frasers are cool, I think.
Thank you for your compliments! Yes, the folds in the shirt were kinda hard work, but since I studied shirts closer now, Iīve learned a big deal about drapery, which is veeery very good.
No, didnīt use imagemapping for the kilt - in fact, Iīm not really sure what imagemapping is
I drew the pattern by hand, and when I saw that the folds over the leg were not bulging forward correctly, *cough* *whispers* I cheated a bit with the "Liquify" filter in Photoshop... sssshhhh...
Apparently the Fraser traditional lands are around Loch Ness. This might explain a few things.
As far as mapping goes, I screwed up the name. It's *displacement* maps I was referring to -- distorting a pattern according to the pattern of lights and darks on a piece. Er, this tutorial explains it far better than I ever could: [link]
Anyway, I'm even more impressed that it was done by hand.
